A shocking story has emerged from the historic Michigan Theatre in Jackson, Michigan. The former Executive Director, Steve Tucker, has revealed a behind-the-curtain drama that has left the community reeling.
Tucker, a dedicated and passionate leader, found himself at odds with the theater's board of directors, a conflict that ultimately led to his unexpected termination.
"It's a sad day for the arts in Jackson," Tucker began, "when a dedicated director is pushed out before they're ready to leave."
The trouble began when the board's composition changed in 2025. Tucker explained that minor operational issues and disputes over trivial matters created a tense environment. He felt the board was intent on replacing him, but the reasons for this were never made clear.

Tucker's tenure at the theater began in 2012, when the theater was on the brink of bankruptcy. He transformed it into a thriving cultural hub, completing a $6.2 million restoration project and securing its financial future.
"The theater is more than just a building," Tucker said. "It's a community hub, offering great programming for all."
Tucker's supporters, many of whom are donors and friends of the theater, have taken to social media to express their outrage. They credit Tucker with the theater's revitalization and are calling for a boycott or withholding support.

Curtis, a friend of Tucker's, described the situation as "a huge injustice." He believes the theater, an architectural gem and cultural feature in Jackson, will suffer unless the situation is rectified.
