Chelsea's Midfield Maneuver
And this is the part most people miss... Chelsea is considering a move for Douglas Luiz, another Brazilian international midfielder. Currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, Douglas Luiz could be a potential loan signing for Chelsea for the remainder of the season.
Chelsea, fighting on four fronts, sees Douglas Luiz as a capable cover for their midfield. Liam Rosenior, Chelsea's manager, has several options at his disposal, including Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Reece James, and others. However, the addition of Douglas Luiz's experience and quality could provide much-needed relief to the burdened Caicedo and Fernández.
Douglas Luiz, 27, excelled at Aston Villa before joining Juventus in 2024. His time in Italy was challenging, and he moved to Forest last summer. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury has limited his appearances, with only two league starts since Sean Dyche took over as manager. Forest has an obligation to buy if Douglas Luiz reaches a certain number of appearances, and they also hold an option to buy.
It remains to be seen if Juventus and Forest will allow Chelsea to take on the loan. Additionally, Chelsea is in the market for a defender, but negotiations with Rennes for Jérémy Jacquet are ongoing, with Rennes demanding a substantial £60 million fee for the 20-year-old.
