Promotion officials dropped the bombshell Saturday morning: Yoel Romero failed to make weight for his light heavyweight championship unification wrestling match against Bo Nickal, the current UFC middleweight and RAF 205-pound champ. This weight miss has huge consequences. Nickal is now automatically crowned the undisputed champion without even competing. Talk about anticlimactic!
And this is the part most people miss: Romero has been stripped of his interim title, but he WILL still be on the card. He's now set to face Stephen Buchanan, who also missed weight for his original matchup against Pat Downey. Downey, like Nickal, is now out of the competition entirely. It's a domino effect of missed opportunities!
This is actually the second time this Nickal-Romero match has been scheduled and then scrapped. Nickal had to withdraw from their original meeting at RAF 4.
