American Liquor Update: Half Still Available in NL After Buying Frenzy! (2026)

Half of Banned US Liquor Stock Remains After Initial Buying Frenzy

The initial buying frenzy following the lifting of a ban on American liquor sales in a province was akin to a Black Friday event, according to NL Liquor Corporation CEO Bruce Keating. The ban, which was lifted just before Christmas, allowed the proceeds to go to the Community Food Sharing Association.

Whiskey and California wines, popular favorites, quickly sold out after the ban was lifted, but just over half of the overall inventory of American products remains. Keating expects that it will take a bit more time to sell since the initial rush has slowed considerably.

"We're about halfway," Keating said. "I think as it is with everything, there are some products that are very, very popular, and there are other products that will be less popular that will take a little more time to sell."

This scenario highlights the varying popularity of different products and the impact of initial buying behavior on inventory turnover. It's a reminder that even in a regulated market, consumer preferences can significantly influence the success of certain products.
